Calmly and solemnly, the President of Aragon presented this Friday his restructuring of the government after the break up the day before by Voxleaving a vice-presidency and a council in the executive branch empty before the coalition’s first anniversary. “The government has worked for eleven months,” Azcón explained, “and the agreement has been in force since day one, without any breach by the PP, and yet Vox has decided to break it.” The Aragonese official believes that the far right “made a mistake” because “despite” the “differences, the lives of Aragonese have improved.”
From now on, the PP will only fly to Aragon. Azcón has announced a restructuring “that will reduce costs” because, apart from a new adviser, the rest of the areas that Vox has so far assumed will be transferred to advisers from his party who are already in government. Thus, the first vice-president, Mar Vaquero, will become a pillar of the executive power by taking over the areas of Justice and Presidency in addition to being the spokesman for Economy and Industry. Vaquero shared the vice-presidency with Alejandro Nolasco of Vox, who resigned early on Friday morning.
“The two resignation decrees”, specified the President of Aragon, “were at the councillors' own request.” With Nolasco, the Minister of Agriculture, Ángel Samper, also resigns, who declared himself independent despite having been appointed by Vox and called the press early in the morning while he was still an adviser, but someone soon corrected him for the mistake, and his press adviser He cancelled the call. Samper, who has been the protagonist of a government action that has not been without controversy, will be replaced by Javier Rincón, the only novelty of the changes, who until now was general secretary of the Ministry of Finance.
Jorge Azcón Take advantage of this crisis to make other changes that have little to do with the departure of Vox. The most striking is the transfer of Education, until now in the hands of the popular advisor Claudia Pérez, to another party, also from the party, that of the Interior, Culture and Sports, Tomasa Hernández. Pérez will now be responsible for a department with which Azcón claims to want to “bring Aragon to the future” by combining Employment, Science and University and, above all, thinking about the technological pole that the community wants to be, for which it must adapt training to the demand of the technology companies that are betting on this area. But it also refreshes an area in which there has been no shortage of protests from the education community this year.
The other macro-department of the government, that of Octavio López, former chief of staff of Jorge Azcón and his most trusted man, gains weight with the transfer of part of that of Vox. López, currently Minister of Development, Transport, Logistics and Housing, will take over from tomorrow the areas of territorial cohesion and the fight against depopulation that fall under the vice-presidency of the far-right Nolasco. The changes are completed by Roberto Bermúdez de Castro, Minister of Finance, also taking over the responsibility of the Interior, until yesterday also the responsibility of the vice-president of Vox.
But Azcón’s already monochromatic government is also a minority government. That’s why he said this morning that his commitment is “dialogue.” He’ll have to work hard to get an agreement through. The PP won 28 seats in the last election, but the majority in Aragon is 34, so seven votes are needed to get an agreement through. This Friday, however, he didn’t seem worried. Journalists asked him if he was relieved, but he responded diplomatically: “I’m as excited as I was on the first day.”
