It's time to continue our college football betting. row with BYU-Wyoming predictions and picks. Find out how to watch BYU-Wyoming.

In the early weeks of any college football season, we rightly spend time asking ourselves the most basic and important question of all: Is this team good, or are they winning because their opponents aren't very good? We also end up wondering whether the team's losses are a result of facing quality opposition, or whether the losses are simply the result of incompetence and general inferiority.

BYU is an example of a winning team that we're not sure about. Wyoming is an example of a losing team that could face surprisingly good opponents. Either way, a smart, savvy bettor should study these teams and figure out whether the evidence points one way or the other heading into Week 3.

BYU was a very modest favorite over Southern Illinois in Week 1, but covered the spread very easily, suggesting the Cougars were undervalued. BYU was then an underdog at SMU in Week 2, even though SMU had played a terrible first game of the season against Nevada in late August and may have been wildly overvalued all offseason. BYU won outright at SMU, leading to questions about whether the Cougars are actually good or if the Mustangs are just really bad. You should be able to make an accurate read on BYU based on what you've seen so far. The Cougars covered the two spreads by some margin, but their opponents may have been overvalued by the markets.

Wyoming is the opposite. Wyoming was a one-touchdown underdog to Arizona State in Week 1, but was thrashed by the Sun Devils. That loss might have seemed embarrassing given how lopsided it was, but after Arizona State beat Mississippi State and then Texas State 3-0, maybe the loss wasn't as bad as it first seemed.

Then Wyoming lost to Idaho in Week 2 at home. That seems like a terrible loss considering Idaho is an FCS program, a lower division school. But remember that Idaho ousted the Oregon Ducks in Week 1. Idaho was down just three points, 17-14, to Oregon early in the fourth quarter of that game. Wyoming was essentially one touchdown worse than Oregon, if Idaho is any indication. If you're one touchdown worse than Oregon, you're probably not such a bad team.

See how complicated this all is? You have to sift through a ton of data and come up with an opinion about these teams that makes sense from a betting perspective.

Why BYU Can Cover the Spread/Win

BYU has been underrated all offseason, and Wyoming's 0-2 record reflects a team that can't score and play at a consistent level. BYU has covered two spreads and will likely cover three.

Why Wyoming Can Cover the Spread/Win

Wyoming's losses to Arizona State and Idaho look a lot better in light of what those two teams have done in their other games this season. BYU will face a tough Wyoming defense on the road, which will make this game very close and give the Cowboys a chance to cover.
