CDU leader Merz clearly outperforms Chancellor Scholz in terms of economic competence

As shown by the Forsa survey conducted by “Stern”, 47 percent of citizens trust the candidate for EU chancellor to move the economy forward again. Only 16 percent said the same about the current Chancellor. 37 percent do not expect this from either of them.

21 percent of SPD supporters consider Merz more convincing on economic issues

Friedrich Merz in particular not only convinced his own supporters (79 percent), but also the voters FDP (55 percent) and the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance (69 percent). Olaf Scholz was only with his supporters SPD (43 percent) and the Greens (37 percent) are in the lead. Only two percent of FDP voters see Scholz's economic competence. Even 21 percent of SPD supporters consider Merz more convincing on economic issues.

But the groups most critical to economic development largely disregard Merz and Scholz’s ability to stimulate growth: 54 percent of self-employed workers do not trust either to bring about an economic turnaround. Thirty-seven percent see benefits with Merz, compared with just 16 percent with Scholz.
