Smart is perhaps best known for his ForTwo but this mini car is no longer in production. Instead, Smart today launch of electric crossovers more than anything we've seen before from this brand.
Next up is the Smart #5, an electric crossover expected to measure 185.2 inches long, just 2.5 inches shorter than the Tesla Model Y.
This was previewed thinly veiled concept in April and Smart confirmed on Monday that it will be unveiled on August 28 in Brisbane, Australia. Sales will begin in 2025, but don't expect it to make it to the U.S., as Smart no longer operates there. The #5 is also expected to be made in China, meaning it will be subject to high tariffs if sold here.
Teaser images show that the production version will closely mirror the concept's design. It's a boxy design accentuated by muscular thighs, giving it a rugged look. Smart said that #5 “Unexpected exterior elements” will also be available, suggesting that some models will feature parts such as roof racks, skid plates and perhaps even flared wheel arches to house the massive off-road tires.

There's no picture of the interior, but the design is likely to be similar to the previously shown concept. That means digital screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, as well as a third screen for the front passenger.
Powertrain details have not been released, but rumors indicate that at least one version will produce close to 640 hpThe concept included a special platform for electric vehicles with 800 volt technology and a battery with a capacity of more than 100 kWh.
The latest Smart models were developed Chinese joint venture created in 2019 between Smart's original parent company Mercedes-Benz and Zhejiang Geely. Mercedes remains responsible for the cars' design, while most of the engineering and manufacturing is done by Geely in China.
