Starting this Tuesday (1), electricity bills will increase with the activation of red flag level 2, the highest in the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) system. With this change, the cost for every 100 kilowatt-hours consumed increases from R$4,463 to R$7,877.

Aneel conveyed this decision on Friday (27), due to hydrological risks, low reservoir levels, and the increase in energy prices in the market which is influenced by production costs.
The tariff flag system includes green, yellow and red, with two levels of red. Green flag level 1, which does not incur additional costs, has been in effect since September, after a period in which the green flag, the most economical, was in effect for several months.
According to Aneel, this system aims to make charging more transparent for consumers of the National Interconnection System (SIN). Created in 2015, the system reflects the cost of energy generation in Brazil and allows consumers to adjust their usage to try to reduce their electricity bills.
