ESPN's Trevor Matic used an unexpected analogy on Saturday to describe Georgia Tech's surprise win over 10th-ranked Florida State in the Irish.
Another unexpected development was that fans liked it.
Georgia Tech won 24-21 on a game-winning goal by Aidan Birr late in the game.

Georgia Tech fans didn't even have time to visit the Irish pubs before Matic offered his version of how the Yellow Jackets won the game.
He compared Tech's win to women's soccer.
“I'll tell you, it just makes me think of women's soccer… one of my favorite sports,” Matic said. “One of my favorite sports to watch, other than soccer, is U.S. women's soccer in international games, whether it's the Olympics or the World Cup. Because if they're struggling early, if a team gets ahead and scores on them, a lot of soccer teams are going to be clutching their pearls and everyone's going to be excited.
“The women, you just see the attitude grow, it's like, 'Oh, no way, man.' And they come back and they smash, smash until they win. And Georgia Tech took that first kick off the first drive for a touchdown from Florida State, and they had that same attitude. 'Oh no, they're ranked, they're a big team that everybody's talking about. … And they smash, smash.'

Matic credited the USWNT and Georgia Tech for pulling off the surprise. However, some fans admitted they had no idea where the ESPN analyst was going with his references to women's soccer. Overall, they agreed it worked.
Not the first comparison that came to my mind, but the man is not wrong. https://t.co/pSQcRlNqhv

Honestly, I think it's a good comparison, but not what I immediately thought. I also thought it would be worse than I imagined. https://t.co/sEnLgMBnKt
