A former primary school principal has been charged by Hong Kong's anti-graft watchdog with defrauding the school of about HK$270,000 (US$34,600) in salaries and funds.
Chen Yi-xin, 47, faces four counts of fraud and was released on bail, according to a statement from the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) on Friday. He is expected to appear in West Kowloon Court next Tuesday.
Chen was the principal of Chiu Tsang Hock Wan Primary School, Yan Chai Hospital in Qingyi when the alleged fraud occurred last year.
He is accused of lying about not receiving his salary for two consecutive months and of defrauding the school into paying him twice the amount of HK$150,000.
Chen also allegedly defrauded the school of HK$120,000 for his personal use by lying that he had the authority to withdraw school funds.
