We have the Joker. We have Harley Quinn. Now we have Harvey Dent. All of these characters will be featured in Todd Phillips' upcoming sequel.Joker: Madness for Two“, as shown in new footage released by Warner Bros. on Tuesday morning. The footage provides a first look at Harry LowtyKnown for his leading role as Robert Spearing in the acclaimed HBO and BBC Two series Industry, he plays Harvey Dent, also known as Two-Face, one of Batman's main adversaries.
Harvey Dent was first introduced in DC Comics as a Gotham City district attorney whose symmetrical acid disfigurement at the hands of the mob leads him to a life of crime and a duel of personalities. In Folie à Deux, 27-year-old Lawtie appears to be playing an up-and-coming version of the character, as he appears in a TV news interview with a card identifying him as an assistant district attorney.
“Arthur Fleck is a monster. He knew exactly what he was doing,” Lawtey's Dent says in a short new promotional video. “His twisted acts of violence have led to unrest among his followers, and they are still willing to commit acts of violence in his name.”
Dent has proven to be a popular con man in Batman adaptations. The character was first portrayed in Tommy Lee Jones' 1995 feature Batman Forever, where he starred alongside Jim Carrey as the Riddler. Aaron Eckhart then took on the role of Dent in The Dark Knight, which followed the district attorney's fall from public icon to coin-flipping criminal after being disfigured by the Joker. Whether Lawtie's version of Dent will evolve into Two-Face in Folie à Deux remains to be seen.
“Joker: Madness for Two,” starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, hits theaters Oct. 4. It premieres at the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday.
