Hurricane John caused devastation in Acapulco, a year's worth of rain fell in four days

Less than a year later, Acapulco was once again hit by hurricane damage.

John hit the coast Monday evening as a category 3 hurricane. It has been raining continuously for the past five days, causing a lot of damage, flooding and landslides.

According to the Civil Protection report, up to 600 cubic millimeters have fallen in Acapulco, Chilpancingo and other parts of Guerrero.

Videos of various recorded disasters are circulating on social networks. Different videos are seen with swimming pools and drifting houses in mountainous areas.

The civil protection authorities of Acapulco also reported that it will continue to rain today and on Saturday, they asked to take the necessary measures to protect themselves and leave the places that already pose a risk.


According to El País, at least 19 neighborhoods were flooded, with the Diamond Zone being the most affected and authorities launched aid and rescue efforts for people trapped in their homes.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Acapulco, Abelina López Rodríguez, has called on the federal government to declare a state of emergency in the city.
