Intel Postpones Innovation 2024 Event Due to Poor Financial Position

As Intel looks to streamline its business operations and return to profitability amid weak revenue and other business challenges, nothing is off the table as the company looks to cut costs in 2025 — even Intel trade shows. In a surprise announcement this afternoon, Intel began informing attendees of its fall Innovation 2024 trade show that the event has been postponed. Previously scheduled for September of this year, Innovation is now set to take place at some point in 2025.

Innovation is Intel’s regular technical exhibition for developers, customers, and the public, and is the successor to the company’s legendary IDF show. In recent years, the show has been used to provide status updates on Intel’s fabs, introduce new customer platforms such as Panther Lakelaunching new products and much more.

However, after three years of holding the show, the future of Innovation is in question as Intel has officially postponed the show and has given no clear indication of when it might return.

In a message published on Website “Innovations 2024” (registration required) and sent out separately via email, Intel announced that the show was being postponed. Instead, Intel still plans to hold smaller developer events.

Innovation Update 2024

After careful consideration, we have decided to postpone our Intel Innovation event, hosted by Intel in September, until 2025. Through the end of 2024, we will continue to host smaller, more targeted events, webinars, hackathons, and meetups around the world through Intel Connection and Intel AI Summit events, as well as other industry events.

Separately, in statement sent to PCMagThe company cited its current financial position and that they “have some difficult decisions to make as we continue to align our cost structure and evaluate how we rebuild a sustainable process technology leadership engine.”

While Intel hasn’t yet released the full program for the delayed show, Innovation 2024 is expected to be the main showcase for Intel’s Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake client processors, both of which are due out this fall. Arrow Lake, in particular, is Intel’s flagship product for its 20A process node — its first node to implement RibbonFET and PowerVia’s back-side power delivery — so its launch will be a big moment for the company. And while the delay of Innovation won’t impact those launches, it does mean Intel won’t have access to the same stage or built-in audience that comes with hosting its own trade show. Not to mention the missed opportunities for software developers, who are the show’s core audience.

Officially, the show has simply been postponed. But given the time it takes to book the San Jose Convention Center and similar venues, it’s unclear whether Intel will be able to hold the show until the second half of 2025 — at which point we’ll be closer to Innovation 2025, effectively canceling Innovation 2024.

Meanwhile, the company has already announced that they will present Lunar Lake at the IFA exhibition in Germany in September. So this remains the next big show for Intel's chip client group.
