While attending a Coachella after-party, Kaytranada said he was asked to produce or “make beats.” He has since told Drake's supposed representative that it would be an “honor.” Drake, however, was not pleased.
As time went on, Kaytranada said the word came back to him, and his response of “Sure, text me” wasn't warm enough. “I should have been like, 'Oh my God, really? Drake?' I'm not like that,” he said.
The 2022 project, which features singles “Sticky,” “Massive,” and “Jimmy Cooks,” marks Drake's foray into dance music. The album, Alight, has been sent to debut tops the chartsA collaboration with Kaytranada could help him stay at the top spot for much longer.
Drake wasn’t the only superstar to have a collaboration with Kaytranada fall through. Later in the conversation, he admitted why his beloved remix of Beyoncé’s “Cuff It” wasn’t available on streaming platforms. Kaytranada ultimately canceled the upload for financial reasons.
“Sometimes people don't see your value and how important you are,” he said. “I know what I mean to people.” His response came after he claimed Beyoncé's team offered to pay him next to nothing or “less money than much lesser artists were paying” while “retaining all the rights to the song.”
Kaytranada seems to have no problem turning down things that don't benefit him.
