Mexico City.- The Senate granted permission to Omar García Harfurch, Ernestina Godoy and Citlalli Hernández to separate from their duties as senators for an indefinite period starting September 30.
After more than eight hours of discussion and after the general and specific approval, with 86 votes in favor, of the reform that would allow the National Guard to become part of the Ministry of Defense, the Morenistas requested permission to separate its legislative functions.
After previous consultations, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, president of the Senate Board of Directors, reported that the legislators had permission to separate. The senators will be part of Claudia Sheinbaum's Cabinet.
García Harfuch will be in charge of the Security Secretariat; Godoy will be the President's legal advisor, and Hernández will be head of the Women's Secretariat.
Amalia García, from Movimiento Ciudadano, congratulated the senators who requested leave for their new assignment. “I wish them to carry out their duties with the dedication, devotion that our country desires and deserves; good luck and congratulations on behalf of the Parliamentary Group of the Citizens' Movement, myself,” she said.
