Longshoremen at the Port of Montreal began a 3-day strike at 2 terminals

The union representing longshore workers at the Port of Montreal began a three-day strike at two terminals.

The Maritime Employers' Association confirmed the work stoppage began Monday at 7 a.m. ET at Termont's Viau and Maisonneuve terminals.

The strike is expected to last until Thursday morning.

The local union, which is affiliated with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, said about 350 members would take part in the job action.

Offshore workers' contracts with the Maritime Employers Association have ended on December 31, 2023.

The association issued a statement on Sunday saying it had tried “all possible means” to avoid the attack. It said that neither mediation nor emergency meetings with the Canadian Industrial Relations Board produced results.
