Madrid pledges to plant 14,000 new trees to replace those cut down on Metro L11

Another 17.1 million euros are now being added to the budget for the extension of metro line 11, which already had 500 million. The Council of Government gave the green light to the contract resulting from the modification of the project for the construction of the line around the stations of Comillas, Madrid Río, Palos de la Frontera, Atocha and Conde de Casal. And the first objective is to reduce the impact on the surrounding trees, which will also be increased with another 14,000 that will be planted specifically.

There are almost 7 kilometres of metro left in the area, for line 11, whose route, when completed, will connect Cuatro Vientos with the new Valdebebas neighbourhood.

In response to neighborhood protests, the construction project was modified at the time to minimize the number of trees affected by the work, cutting back more than 50 percent from the original figure of 1,000 trees.

Over the next four years, the 14,000 new trees in the municipal green will be replaced. The works started in November 2022 and have a completion period of 60 months.

The awarding of these works will now begin, and their work will begin in the first quarter of 2025. According to calculations by the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, the new line will benefit more than 62 million users of the airport, who will give this route a great opportunity. second connection with the Madrid metro network.

The tender process, for 209 million euros, will be published in the regional government gazette in the coming days. The forecast is that the works will have a completion period of 36 months.
