Erik ten HagtalkSPORT presenter Jason Cundy believes Ruud van Nistelrooy will be the successor.
Speaking on the radio show, the host said: “They gave him [Ten Hag] One year added to one year. That's not manager support, that's basically like saying, “We looked around, we did a smell test, there's nobody that smells good to us, we're going to stick with this stink.” They basically feel like it's better now, damn it, you know.
“Ten Hag's problem is that he's in deep trouble now. The owners haven't supported him. It's one of the worst attempts to support a manager – to give him a one-year extension.” [On bringing in the players Ten Hag wanted] This is support for the project, not him. Give him a three-year contract!”
He added: “If you really support the manager, say to him, 'I really believe in you, let's do it now, let's do three more years on top of the one year and give you four years.' They sit there and say, 'There's nothing we like right now, we'll bring Van Nistelrooy in to help.'
“Everyone knows how this will end. Ten Hag knows it, Sir Jim Ratcliffe knows it, the players know it, Van Nistelrooy knows it. It's just a matter of time.”
