The grants are intended to improve the quality of both hotel and non-hotel accommodations in the region. López Miras emphasized that this initiative is a strategic move to increase the competitiveness of the tourism sector.
Focus on quality and modernization
The modernization efforts will mainly benefit areas such as Lorca, Cartagena and… Murcia city, as well as coastal hotels and businesses in need of upgrades. The main improvements will focus on energy efficiency, digitalization and sustainability.
This funding complements the increased budget for tourism in the region, which now totals €22 million in 2024, doubling the amount compared to four years previously.
Promoting attractions all year round
In addition to promoting coastal tourism, López Miras emphasized Murcia's cultural, religious and natural attractions, positioning the region as a diverse destination all year round.
Record-breaking tourism figures in recent years reflect the success of Murcia's tourism strategy, with visitor numbers and overnight stays exceeding historic highs. Forecasts for 2024 indicate continued growth, with almost 2 million tourists expected to visit the region.
