North Korean troops in Russian uniforms are headed to Ukraine, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said North Korean soldiers with Russian uniforms and equipment were moving towards Russia's Kursk region, the Associated Press reported.

Austin spoke at a news conference in Washington with his South Korean counterpart, Kim Yong-hyun, after the Pentagon said thousands of North Korean troops had been transferred to Russia.

More than 3,000 North Korean troops are moving toward a war zone in western Russia, a senior South Korean government official said, according to the AP.

Austin said the “probability is very high” that Russia would use North Korean soldiers to fight.

He said officials were discussing what to do about the deployment of North Korean troops, which he said could expand or prolong the conflict in Ukraine. When asked whether this could encourage other countries to become more directly involved in the conflict, he acknowledged that this could “encourage other countries to take action”, but did not elaborate.
