Opinion | Multilateralism Won't Work If U.S. Focuses on Competition

Barring any surprises, the coming week will feature two major events, but I'm sure you can only name one of them.

This is probably a long-awaited meeting. US Federal Reserve System and a likely decision to cut interest rates – perhaps by as much as 0.5 percentage points. Of course, millions of words and thousands of pundits will be used to rhetoric about the likely impact of the announcement, both inside and outside the U.S. For a short time, it will distract attention from the usual mix of Gas, Ukraine And weather cataclysms all over the world.
I expect the second major event to pass with little to no announcements. However, the possible presence Kamala Harris may provide enough electoral urgency to grab the attention of passing media. Besides, it will go unnoticed because most participants will not care.
I'm talking about that, United Nations Future Summit in New York. The summit is of great importance because it is dedicated to the collapse versatility and international cooperation, and what needs to be done to build the cooperation needed to successfully combat the many existential challenges that communities around the world face, but which no one country can tackle alone.
