Just from her unexpected appearance at the Democratic National Convention, Oprah Winfrey will hold a major livestream next week to show support for Kamala Harris.
The event, which was named “Unite for America” is being touted as an opportunity for like-minded groups supporting Harris—Win With Black Women, Cat Ladies for Kamala, Win With Black Men, White Dudes for Harris, Swifties for Kamala, etc.—to unite under one banner.
Winfrey will meet with about 400 voters in person on September 19 and will livestream the event on platforms including YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Twitch and Instagram.
“This event will serve as a call to action and outreach to communities across all swing states to register people to vote and build support in the lead up to November 5th,” organizers said in a press release.
Many celebrities have already taken part in Zoom fundraisers in support of Harris, which are designed to encourage supporters to take concrete steps to support the campaign.
During the height of the pandemic in 2020, Winfrey held a similar series of virtual gatherings, authorized “OWN your voice.”
Joe Biden did guest appearance in one of his live broadcasts in late October, which was aimed at encouraging voters to cast ballots in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio.
Winfrey was a key early supporter of former President Obama in his Democratic primary against Hillary Clinton in 2007-08. At the convention last month, Winfrey said she was a registered independent who had always “voted for my values.”
“So I’m speaking to all of you, independents and all of you who are undecided,” she said. “You know, I’m telling you the truth: Values and character matter more than anything, in leadership and in life… And most of all — you know this is true — that integrity and respect will be on the ballot in 2024.”
