Pickard Chilton's 'Tallest Tower in Nebraska' Under Construction in Omaha

Construction is underway at an altitude of 206 meters skyscraper by the American architectural studio Pickard Chilton in Nebraskawhich, once completed, will be the tallest in the state.

The 44-story skyscraper located in Omaha will become the new headquarters of the insurance company. Mutual Omaha The team says it will be the tallest skyscraper in Nebraska and surrounding states.

“When completed, the 677-foot (206-meter) Next Generation Headquarters tower will be the tallest in Nebraska and the neighboring states of Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, South Dakota and Wyoming,” said Picard Chilton.

Renderings of the skyscraper show a glass tower with jagged corners topped with a translucent cap.

The building will have 22 floors of offices, separated on the 17th floor by a “sky lobby” that will span five floors and include retail space, restaurants, a fitness center and open spaces.

The tower's 44th floor will feature a conference room with a double-height ceiling, offering visitors “grand views.”

With interiors from the architectural studio HOCKAccording to the team, the tower's design aims to improve productivity through spaces created for a flexible working environment.

“One of the most remarkable aspects of the design is the variety on each floor,” said HOK interior director Betsy Graham.

“From phone rooms and meeting rooms to breakout areas, we’ve created experiences that meet employees’ needs where they are, creating a responsive, people-focused environment that reflects the spirit of their work.”

The company's current headquarters are in downtown Omaha, and this tower will be located just west of the recently reopened Gene Leahy Mall in RiverFront.

According to the team, The city plans to build a new tram line prompted this step.

“A modern urban transportation system in the form of a planned light rail line makes this project possible, providing convenient access to our planned headquarters tower and allowing us to think creatively about many aspects of the project,” Mutual of Omaha CEO James Blackledge said when the project was announced in 2022.

“We are inspired by the energy of downtown Omaha and recognize the importance of a vibrant urban core to the city's future,” he added.

Developed by Nebraska-based Real estate company LanohConstruction of the project began last year and is scheduled for completion in 2026.

Pickard Chilton was founded in 1997 and is based in New Haven, Connecticut.
