Pricing detailed for 2024 Toyota HiLux mild-hybrid

Toyota Australia has put a price on the upcoming mild-hybrid versions of its best-selling HiLux dual-cab ute, with buyers set to pay more than $1600 for the fuel-saving technology when it arrives in showrooms from March 2024.

Officially named V-Active Technology, the 48-volt mild-hybrid system is only available on five automatic 4×4 dual-cab variants of the Toyota HiLux.

The Toyota HiLux SR is the least-expensive grade to gain the mild-hybrid system as a cost option, coming at a $1025 premium for the dual-cab chassis and $1605 for the dual-cab pickup.

This lifts the price of the two variants to $54,130 and $56,210 before on-road costs, respectively. It’s worth noting mild-hybrid versions of the SR also gain dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, carpet floor mats, and auto up/down for the power windows.

Pricing of the HiLux SR’s non-4×4 dual-cab grades is unchanged for now.

Toyota HiLux SR5 dual-cabs with an automatic transmission and 4×4 are fitted with the V-Active mild-hybrid system as standard, increasing the cab-chassis price to $60,580 before on-road costs (up $590), with the pickup now starting from $63,260 before on-road costs (up $770).

While the flagship Toyota HiLux GR Sport misses out on the technology, the HiLux Rogue also has it equipped as standard, raising its price by $770 to $71,530 before on-road costs.

The addition of the 48-volt technology to the SR5 and Rogue comes alongside a wireless charger and two rear USB-C ports.

Toyota hasn’t confirmed power and torque outputs for the mild-hybrid equipped HiLux, however the same 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine and 48-volt system is shared with the upcoming 250 Series LandCruiser Prado – which produces 150kW and 500Nm, unchanged from non-hybrid versions.

The brand claims the system can save up to 10 per cent from the HiLux’s claimed fuel consumption – which varies between 7.9L/100km to 8.4L/100km on the combined cycle – as it can shut the engine off for longer than a conventional stop-start system, and reduce the idle speed from 720rpm to 600rpm.

All versions of the Toyota HiLux will be equipped with a revised grille and front bumper, alongside further equipment changes detailed here.

Automatic SR pickup models get front and rear parking sensors, while SR5s gain a black upper grille surround, darkened headlight clusters, and a gloss black finish for the fog light bezels, exterior mirrors and door handles.
