PSOE and Sumar held the first follow-up meeting of the coalition agreement this Thursday, which Yolanda Díaz's party had requested. several times in recent months. During the meeting, which lasted several hours, both sides agreed to promote the social measures included in the pact they signed before the inauguration, according to the statement they released at the end. They also agreed to establish a working group to “develop democratic recovery measures.”
“During the meeting, the good health of the coalition was confirmed. The meeting served to promote compliance with the agreement of the progressive coalition government, in particular social measures in the absence of new general state budgets for 2024,” reads the statement in which both parties confirmed the “good health of the coalition.”
Months ago, in February this year, Sumar's then executive coordinator, Josep Vendrell, and that formation's spokesman and Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, sent a letter to the Socialist Party requesting the creation of a committee of follow-up to the coalition agreement that both armed forces signed in November.
In that letter, Sumar urged the Socialists to hold an initial meeting to elect the members of that committee as a first step. The coalition agreement provided that this committee would be established within thirty days of the formation of the government. Therefore, this first meeting was ultimately held several months late.
At last Thursday's meeting, held in the Congress of Deputies, were present the First Vice President of the Government, María Jesús Montero, the Minister of Justice, Félix Bolaños, the Secretary of State for Relations with the Cortes, on behalf of the PSOE, Rafael Simancas and party spokesperson Esther Peña.
