Many of the most famous musicians have yet to comment on the conflict between Palestine and Israel. While others, including Macklemore, KelaniAnd Roger Waters strongly supported Palestine.
The latter even found himself embroiled in a media war with a fellow musician. During a performance at Cause podcast (which was then covered Independent) Nick Cave has called Waters' support for the BDS (boycott, divestment and sanctions) movement “utterly disgraceful.”
So yesterday (August 31) Waters responded sharply to Cave's call, writing video uploaded to his official Instagram page. “Dear Independent, here’s my response to an Australian guy,” he said. “Nick Cave. Nick fucking Cave. A Palestinian mother/father carrying parts of her or his dead child back down a bitter road to nowhere in a plastic bag, stopping at the side of the road to scribble a message on the rubble. Nick, here’s the message. Dear Nick Cave, we the indigenous people of Palestine, in this agony, beg you, please do not cross the BDS picket line to sing for your supper in Israel. It’s not hard, Nick. It’s not hard.”
In the caption of the video, Waters continued to defend his position. “Hey Nick Cave, it's okay to be wrong mate,” he wrote. “Obviously it's a big deal that you don't stand up to genocide? But hey! Nobody's perfect? Just say you're sorry.
Not me and Brian Eno, we don't give a shit. No, apologize to the Palestinians. Join BDS and we'll forget the past.”
Nick Cave has not denied Roger Waters' comments.
