Roman's Pizza Clears Up 'Recycled Boxes' Situation [VIDEO]

There has been a stir on social media after a video emerged showing a Roman's Pizza employee apparently wiping down pizza boxes so they can be reused.

Fast food chain Roman's Pizza says it is investigating an incident involving the reuse of old pizza boxes at its Mayfield Square shopping centre in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni.

This comes after a video of service at a franchise store was widely shared on social media.

In the video, an employee washes dirty boxes that used to contain pizza.

Roman's Pizza responds

Roman's Pizza said it was taking action in response to concerns raised by customers after viewing the video on social media.

“We want to reassure our valued customers and the public that this is not a practice within our brand. We take this matter extremely seriously and have launched a thorough investigation into the incident. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that our high standards are upheld.”

The company said it prides itself on customer service and “adheres to strict operational protocols to ensure the quality and safety of our products.”

“We have a zero tolerance policy for any behavior that compromises our brand, products, procedures and hygiene standards. The actions of the employees in the video do not reflect standard practice within our organization.

“Our customers' trust and loyalty are of the utmost importance to us and we are deeply concerned about this incident. We want to assure our customers that we are thoroughly investigating this matter and will take swift action to address any non-compliance with our standards,” Romans Pizza said.

South Africans react

The video prompted a number of social media users to express their outrage over the incident.

“This man is intentionally trying to destroy this business with this one act, or maybe this has been going on for too long. We need a clear explanation. It's not enough to just condemn him through a published statement. We need a thorough investigation,” @mr_charleseze said on X.

Another user, @lekoloanemanam2, said the incident was “one of the many reasons I stopped eating fast food, nine years on.”
