Mexico City.- The Senate plenary discussed the opinion detailing the transfer of the National Guard to the State Defense Secretariat.
Yesterday, over the objections of the Opposition, Morena and his allies supported reforms in the Commission.
Morenistas and their allies deny that the reforms led to the militarization of the Republic, and claim that with Andrés Manuel López Obrador as President, the crime rate has decreased. Senator Adán Augusto López Hernández, head of the Morenoist caucus, said he knew that the head of the PRI group, Manuel Añorve, and his colleagues would vote in favor of the reforms.
In discussions at the Commission, Senator Marko Cortés, leader of the PAN, assured that the blue and white party would be willing to help President Claudia Sheinbaum to improve the public security strategy.
“We want to help the new president improve his strategy, but militarization is not the solution,” he said. PAN member Ricardo Anaya deplored the “mental tricks” Morena is using to keep crime rates down. Senator Luis Donaldo Colosio, of Movimiento Ciudadano, said he was concerned that the reforms would put “the final nail” in the coffin of civil security in Mexico. “To further militarize the country to prevent the security crisis from escalating is to turn a blind eye,” he warned.
