Fox has re-entered European football several years after the Bundesliga went away. However, the acquired games will not be available in English.
Fox and Serie A have agreed to a two-year media rights deal for the Spanish rights to the Italian top flight, according to an announcement on Friday. Matches will be broadcast on Fox Deportes and the Fox Sports app.
Fox Deportes to offer up to three matches per week, with shoulder programming used in some matches.
Serie A will be available to Spanish-speaking audiences via linear broadcasts, with FOX Deportes offering up to three matches per week. Selected matches will also include pre-match and post-match studio coverage in Spanish.
In addition, all matches will be broadcast on the FOX Sports app. Additional Serie A content, including analysis, interviews and match highlights, will be featured on the daily sports news show Total Sports 360 and football debate show Punto Final.
CBS Sports saved Serie A's English-language rights were acquired earlier this summer on a two-year deal. All matches will be shown on Paramount+, with select matches also airing on CBS Broadcast Network, CBS Sports Network and CBS Sports Golazo Network.
Serie A's decision to split its English and Spanish rights is interesting. NBC and Telemundo, both under the same ownership, hold the English and Spanish language rights to the Premier League. ESPN's La Liga deal includes both English and Spanish rights. Each of those leagues receives nine-figure sums a year in rights fees, while CBS as reported will not pay $150 million a year, as required by Serie A.
