Tariffs could increase inflation again: IMF

director General International Monetary Fund (FMI), Kristalina Georgievastated yesterday that new tariffs on imports in the US could lead to impactful price increases especially for low-income families.

Both US presidential candidates in the November 5 election are former presidents Donald Trump and vice president Kamala Harrishas supported this policy.

Tariffs “raise prices. “At a time when we are still struggling to reduce inflation, it is highly recommended that we not introduce new factors that push up prices,” he said. Georgieva during a
interview with CNBC.

He highlighted that when a country is subject to tariffs, “There is a 75% chance.” commercial retaliation.

“What we see is the risk of price increases in the United States, (and) particularly the impact on consumers poor family. There is also a risk that US companies will be impacted retaliatory action, Georgieva warned.

I'm out of period strong inflation, like other countries, as a result of explosion consumption after the Covid-19 pandemic and global economic reactivation.
