Taylor Swift has officially announced her support for the 2024 presidential race, expressing her support for Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris.
Swift made the announcement in Instagram post a few minutes after the first, and perhaps only, presidential debate between harris and trump ends Tuesday evening.
“I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election. I am voting for [Kamala Harris] “Because she fights for rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to stand up for them,” Swift wrote in the post.
“I think she is a strong, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm rather than chaos,” the post read. “I was so encouraged and impressed by her choice of running mate [Tim Walz]who has been championing LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
She went on to urge voters to do their own research on the issue and make an informed decision at the polls. The post was captioned “Taylor Swift, childless cat lady,” a dig at past comments by Trump’s vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance.
Swift's endorsement comes after Trump last month posted an AI-generated image falsely implying that she endorsed him.
