The Complutense finds no irregularities in Begoña Gómez's chair but asks the judge to continue the investigation

The Complutense University of Madrid addressed the investigating judge Begoña Gomez to press for his intention, which has failed so far, to file charges against the wife of the president of the government. The center has sent a report to the magistrate by letter Juan Carlos Peinado Explaining that after an internal investigation no irregularities were found in the management of the president led by Gómez, but claiming that the businesswoman did not send the documentation she requested and asking that the judge be the one to investigate. “Investigative activities do not allow us to reach a definitive conclusion on the existence or not of damage to their assets”, acknowledges the Complutense.

At the first moment, the complaint that Clean Hands He brought Begoña Gómez to court using several newspaper clippings that did not raise any suspicion about her work at Complutense University. The mere fact that businessman Carlos Barrabés, whose public awards are being investigated, was part of the Master's program in Competitive Social Transformation.

Barrabés testified earlier this week, denying any irregularities in those public contracts and explaining that he had met Gómez several times in Moncloa, also coincided with Pedro Sánchez. In previous days the rector of the university appeared, who He also denied any irregularities in the management of the wife of the president of the government. At the same time, the UCM unsuccessfully asked Judge Peinado to join the prosecution, something the magistrate denied on June 20 because the case did not show any damage to the center's coffers.

The Complutense’s response was a new letter addressed to the judge, asking him to investigate himself and reconsider his decision not to accept the university as an accusation against Gómez. The twenty-page document explains that they have been investigating for a month whether Gómez has somehow entered his name or unlawfully managed software developed for the chair he headed. The UCM explains that it has not been able to discover these illegalities on its own, but asks the judge to investigate in order to remedy the lack of cooperation from Gómez, from whom they requested all the documentation a month ago.

His internal investigation, he admits, “does not allow” him to reach a “definitive conclusion”, attributing this lack of evidence to “the lack of cooperation of certain interveners”. The document shows that the UCM contacted Gómez on 11 June and that the wife of the President of the Government responded a day later, acknowledging receipt and stating: “I am collecting all the information/documentation that you request in each of your requests.” The letter, signed 19 days later, states that he has received nothing.

The letter does contain the information that Complutense has received in recent weeks from the Intellectual Property Registry, according to which neither Begoña Gómez nor her company have registered that software in their name. Gómez is not the only person from whom he has requested information that had not yet been sent on the date of presentation of the document: the same happens with Deloitte and with José Manuel Ruano, co-director of the president, who reported that he did not have that documentation.

Begoña Gómez’s statement is scheduled for next Friday in the courts of Plaza de Castilla in Madrid. The wife of the president of the government had already been summoned a few days ago, but the judge suspended her appearance after she acknowledged that one of the complaints, the one filed by the ultra-Catholic association HazteOir, had not been communicated and that she did not know what she was accused of.
