The lagoon area has always had a high demand for women who use alcohol, tobacco and drugs, but in the last eight years the numbers have increased rapidly, rising from 11 to 51 percent of all patients treated at the Youth Integration Center.
Cecilia Martínez López, Director of the Youth Integration Center (CIJ), explained that previously for every eight men there was one woman seeking treatment, the ratio is now one woman for every four men, last year it was one woman for every two men, but at the end of August this year, 51 percent of patients treated in Torreón were women.
He gave an example, excessive consumption brings other consequences, besides getting drunk, such as risky unprotected sexual relations, a tendency towards violence, family problems, and other situations that also arise.
“We always work with a gender perspective and this tells us that women continue to be a vulnerable sector, in the processes or programs, both treatment and prevention, that we implement, we will strengthen the gender perspective in order to be able to warn and raise awareness among women about this issue,” she said.
