With the arrival of winter and the increase in mobility and gatherings during December, the Head of Health Jurisdiction number 8, Roberto Cárdenas Zavala, warned of a possible increase in Covid-19 and influenza infections in the region.
Given these conditions, the official highlighted the need to implement protective measures to reduce the risk of infection.
“We know that in December, due to the holiday season and low temperatures, the risk of Covid-19 and influenza increases, and international and federal authorities are taking measures to prevent this situation,” said Cárdenas Zavala.
State officials explained that in Coahuila, there are currently 800 doses of the Cuban Abdala vaccine, and more biologics are expected to arrive in the coming weeks; However, the head of the Health Jurisdiction indicated there was no certainty whether the Mexican Patria vaccine would reach the state.
Regarding the use of vaccines whose expiration date has passed, Cárdenas Zavala explained that COFEPRIS provides an extension of their use so that they can be applied without risk. In jurisdictions under his responsibility, 1,200 doses of this vaccine have recently been administered, although the vaccine is not updated for new virus variants.
