A 12-year-old boy injured six of his classmates with a knife at a school north of Lisbon. Rescue workers announced on Tuesday that a twelve-year-old girl was seriously injured.
According to local media, his classmate stabbed him in the head and chest. He was taken to hospital. The other five people injured were children aged between twelve and 14 years.
The crime took place in Azambuja, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Lisbon. The alleged attacker was arrested and questioned by police about his possible motives and background, police said.
Prime Minister Luís Montenegro condemned the act. He described the incident on the online service X as an “isolated act” and an “unknown phenomenon” in Portuguese society. Portugal’s Education Minister and President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also condemned the move.
