UK mortgage approvals outstrip forecasts in October

GDP: The US will release its second estimate for gross domestic product in the third quarter, which economists expect will show growth accelerated by 5 per cent, a slight revision from the preliminary estimate of 4.9 per cent. 

Earnings: Discount retailer Dollar Tree, Spam maker Hormel and shoe retailer Foot Locker will report their latest quarterly earnings before Wall Street’s opening bell. Tech groups Salesforce and Snowflake, Calvin Klein owner PVH and retailers Five Below and Victoria’s Secret report after the market closes.

GM: General Motors chief executive Mary Barra and chief financial officer Paul Jacobson will deliver a business update to analysts after the company releases new financial materials.

Fed: The US Federal Reserve will release its latest “Beige Book”, an anecdotal assessment of economic conditions gathered by each central bank branch. Meanwhile, Cleveland Fed president Loretta Mester will speak about financial stability at a policy conference in Chicago. 

Supreme Court: The highest court in the US will hear oral arguments in a case challenging the legitimacy of the federal securities regulator’s in-house court.

Biden: US president Joe Biden will travel to the state of Colorado to speak about wind energy and the Inflation Reduction Act.
