Ukraine suspects killing of 16 prisoners of war by Russia

Based on the video, the Ukrainian justice system suspects the murder of 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian soldiers. The Prosecutor General's Office in Kyiv spoke about alleged war crimes. He said a video appeared on his Telegram channel on Tuesday. The photo was allegedly taken on the front line near the war-torn city of Pokrovsk. Russian troops are advancing in the region.

“The video shows captured Ukrainian soldiers exiting a forest that was under enemy control,” the statement said. “After they lined up, the invaders deliberately shot at them. The injured victims who still showed signs of life were killed at close range with automatic weapons.”

Justice checked the video material

There are no other sources regarding this process. The material is being examined, the court said. If the case is proven true, according to Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin, this would be the worst case of killing of Ukrainian prisoners of war on the front line. According to a recent UN report, soldiers from both sides were at highest risk of being mistreated or killed upon capture.
