President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Thursday that he had spoken with US House Speaker Mike Johnson and urged him to quickly pass legislation to provide Ukraine with tens of billions in funding for desperately needed military assistance.
“We recognize that there are differing views in the House of Representatives on how to proceed, but the key is to keep the issue of aid to Ukraine as a unifying factor,” Zelenskyy said in a statement.
He said that he had briefed Johnson on the situation on the battlefield, in particular Russia’s intensifying air attacks.”
“Last week alone, 190 missiles, 140 Shahed drones, and 700 guided aerial bombs were launched at Ukrainian cities and communities,” Zelenskyy said. “Ukraine’s largest hydroelectric power plant has gone offline.”
“In this situation, quick passage of US aid to Ukraine by Congress is vital,” Zelenskyy added.
