What happened in the last few hours
This is the most important news of the day in the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza at 9:15 PM on Sunday, May 26:
Hamas launches a rocket attack on Tel Aviv for the first time in four months. This morning, Hamas launched eight rockets from Rafah, southern Gaza, against the Tel Aviv region of central Israel, the Israeli military said, claiming several were intercepted. The barrage, which caused no injuries, was fired in response to “Israeli military activity against a major rocket production center in the area,” according to the Israeli military.
Hamas's armed wing says it has captured Israeli soldiers during fighting in Gaza; Israel denies it. “When the right time comes, we will provide details of this operation,” Abu Obaida, the spokesman for Hamas's armed wing, said at the end of his video address. Immediately afterwards, the Israeli military released a statement to “clarify that no incident involving the abduction of a soldier occurred.”
Albares: “Nothing will intimidate us in support of the ceasefire and aid to Gaza.”“Spain has been very steadfast in condemning the Hamas attacks and demanding the release of all hostages, but Spain has also been very steadfast and will continue to be so, in a ceasefire and access to aid through to demand land points,” he said, Spain's foreign minister.
About 125 humanitarian aid trucks enter Gaza from Egypt through the Kerem Shalom border crossing. The vehicles, loaded with hundreds of tons of food and fuel, began driving from Egyptian territory at dawn into the corridor leading to Kerem Shalom, where they are being inspected by Israel, as confirmed by security sources and the Egyptian Red Crescent.
A new protest in Tel Aviv against Netanyahu and for the release of the hostages ends with charges and arrests. Thousands of people demonstrated last night in Tel Aviv, as well as in other cities, against the government of Benjamin Netanyahu and to demand the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. According to the Israeli press, police eventually charged the protesters, even using water cannons, and arrested at least seven of them.
