Wigan Life Museum's What's in Store exhibition will go live and travel to communities around Wigan.
What's in Store showcases Wigan Borough's historic collections with over 600 artefacts on display, including fine art, natural history, costume, ceramics and textiles representing the borough's history and future.
As part of the two-year exhibition, What's in Store on Tour will see some objects visit communities from now until March 2025, with nine pop-up exhibits in libraries.
Councillor Chris Ready, Cabinet Member for Communities at Wigan Council, said: “This innovative approach will bring the museum’s objects to the heart of our communities, meaning many more people will be able to experience them and the What’s in Store project, which is all about connecting our communities and residents with our collections.
“Through What’s in Store and What’s in Store on tour, we are interested in hearing from local people and gaining their views on how we use the district’s collections to tell their stories and narratives, both in the museum and beyond.”
Each pop-up exhibit will contain a small selection of objects, including artifacts with links to the local area.
Visitors will also be able to leave their thoughts and ideas at a special feedback station that is part of the exhibit.
What's in Store on Tour will be at Wigan and Standish Library between Monday 5th August and Saturday 21st September.
It will then travel to Shevington and Marsh Green libraries (26 September – 13 November), Platt Bridge, Hindley and Golborne (20 November – 23 January) and Atherton, Leigh and Tyldesley (28 January – 19 March).
There is an ongoing programme of events linked to What's in Store and the exhibition is open for visits throughout the summer holidays with plenty of fun activities for families.
