March in Caracas: Venezuela Election Results 2024, Live | Maduro Opposition Takes to the Streets in Venezuela and 350 Cities Around the World

Uruguayan Representative to the OAS: “Do you think that eight million Venezuelans have gone traveling around the world?

The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States approved this Friday by consensus a resolution that obliges the CNE to publish as soon as possible the minutes of the presidential elections of July 28, but more than the resolution itself, the report has gone viral thanks to the intervention of the representative of Uruguay before the organization Washington Abdala, who delivered a categorical speech on the Venezuelan crisis, echoing the statement published by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and calling for the unity of the international community in the face of what is happening in the South American country.

Here are some excerpts from his speech:

“Today, from this territory and from the Dominican Republic, what is happening is happening. Voices are coming together, understanding fundamentally the same thing (…) Let's be clear about one thing. The members of this organization do not always agree with the IACHR. The court's statement does not mince words, it speaks of state terrorism, it speaks of authoritarian policies and practices, it speaks of a systematic system of violations of individual freedom. What is not understood?

Experts tell us that the worst is happening. We do not need to adopt the Talleyrand style. We are facing a shameful dictatorship, we are facing the worst thing that has happened to the continent in a long time, and we must face it without too much rhetoric. Nobody here has the manual to get out of dictatorships, and we do not get out of it by congratulating them, we get out of it with a curious attitude, with majorities in the international community that reproduce the same song… If some believe it, they can find this way to tell a dictator: “go away”, I applaud it, but I do not know dictators who leave with enthusiasm and sympathy.

Everyone knows how we eliminate dictatorships in our respective countries. In mine, it was people who stood up, sacrificed lives, and it was the international community, which used to turn its back on us and watch from afar what was happening in Latin America, which at some point changed (…)

The result is empirical and factual, and Edmundo González Urrutia won. Mr. Maduro: What don't you understand? The most serious thing is that when we face cases of state terrorism, it happens that some people read human rights in one way and when it happens elsewhere, they do it in another way. Are they the same human rights, they are the same people who give their lives, their sacrifices, everything, or do you think that eight million Venezuelans have gone traveling around the world? What is not understood? The tone is this, passionate, and I apologize, but if we have to meet for 10, 15, 20 days, we will have to continue doing it, and we will have to continue telling the dictator: Sir, you have to leave there, no one supports you anymore,” he concluded.
