A Ukrainian civilian died on Monday morning in the city of Lutsk in northwestern Ukraine, two others lost their lives in the regions of Dnipropetrovsk (center) and Zaporizhia (southeast) during the massive missile and drone attack launched by Russian forces against Ukrainian territory which had the electricity sector among its targets.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that 15 regions of the country were hit by Russian attacks on Monday morning. Shmyhal asked his allies for long-range weapons and permission to attack Russian targets.
“As a result of the enemy attack, infrastructure in Lutsk was damaged. So far, we have information about one death,” the city's mayor, Igor Polishchuk, wrote on his Telegram account, having previously reported damage to a residential building.
In Dnipropetrovsk, a 69-year-old man died in the attack, according to the region's governor, Sergei Lisak.
For his part, the head of the military administration of Zaporozhye, Ivan Fedorov, reported the death of one person in the region.
According to several official spokespeople, the massive attack launched by Russia in the early hours of Monday morning was largely directed against Ukraine's energy sector.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klichkó reported power and water outages in some parts of the capital. Many residents of the capital took refuge in metro stations to escape the attack.
Electricity companies have announced emergency power cuts following the attack.
