Coronation Street star teases ‘feisty’ newcomer on the way in DS Swain twist

Earlier this year, it was confirmed Coronation Street’s DS Swain (played by Vicky Myers) was set to become a permanent character on the cobbles. Although ITV fans first saw the officer make her debut back in 2021, making re-appearances over the years, it looks as though she’s now here to stay.

Currently, DS Swain is busy investigating the disappearance of teen Lauren Bolton (Cait Fritton). However, it seems as though the case could be a little too close to home as it’s revealed the officer has a daughter of her own.

The soap star confirmed fans will see more of her character’s family life unfold later this year. She told TV Times: “[Swain is] a single mum and a lot of people can relate to that.

“We’re in the process of casting her 16-year-old daughter, and I think it’s fair to say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. She’s feisty, opinionated and educated.”

Vicky confessed it’ll be interesting to see how the officer manages to juggle her personal and professional life, especially as viewers have only seen one side of the character so far. However, the bombshells don’t stop there as there could also be a romance on the cards.

Detailing that DS Swain is gay, the soap star hinted someone in Weatherfield may have already got her attention.

Touching on her character in the past, she told The Mirror: “She perhaps has seen somebody that has caught her eye but at the moment she’s far too busy focusing on this investigation, career and being a single mum.”

Who has DS Swain taken a liking to? And will the feelings be reciprocated?

Currently, viewers haven’t taken a liking to the character as she’s determined to convict Roy Cropper (David Neilson) of Lauren’s murder.

During questioning the cafe owner a few weeks back, it was clear DS Swain was implying there were sinister motives behind Roy’s friendship with the teen.

Watching the interrogation, fans reeled at DS Swain’s treatment of Roy, with many calling for her to stop being so harsh on him as they believe he’s innocent.

@KeananLord commented: “DS Swain needs to leave our Roy Cropper alone, but I have to say he is giving back as much as she is giving him. Great storyline so far.”

@brodenisbored tweeted: “I don’t like DS Swain after interrogating our Roy.”

Although some are thrilled with the addition of the no-nonsense officer as @randomstuffxzxz said: “Why am I actually enjoying Roy getting questioned? DS Swain is an icon #corrie.”

@terrettcorey added: “I love DS Swain, she’s an icon and we’re lucky to have her, but she’s clutching at straws with Roy! #corrie.”

With @RyanTheSoapking tweeting: “I love DS Swain but she is being ridiculous in this storyline with Roy.”

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm.
