Emmerdale fans beg for character to be written out of soap after wedding disaster

Emmerdale viewers are calling for Kerry Wyatt (played by Laura Norton) to be written out of the ITV serial drama, despite the character only returning to the soap in recent months.

Kerry had been away from the Yorkshire Dales for over a year to work on a cruise ship as a Cher tribute act. In reality, the actress who plays her, Laura Norton, was on maternity leave.

While viewers initially seemed excited the hapless character had returned in classic over-the-top Kerry style – in the back of a police car dressed up as Cher – they already appear tired of the Geordie joker.

During the latest episode of Emmerdale, Kerry was praying her necklace, which was gifted to her by an ex, would be worth enough money to cover the cost of Amy Wyatt’s (Natalie Ann Jamieson) and Matty Barton’s (Ash Palmisciano) wedding.

While they were rehearsing for their special day, shrewd businesswoman Kim Tate (Claire King) demanded full payment for the couple using her home as their wedding venue. However, Kerry could not cough up the cash there and then.

Later on, Kerry was informed by Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) that her necklace was worth only £100. The reality that she didn’t have anywhere near enough money to cover her daughter’s wedding then sunk in for Kerry.

Kerry, who seemed to have admitted defeat over the difficult situation, braced herself knowing she needed to come clean with Amy and Matty.

Emmerdale fans will have to wait to find out if Amy and Matty manage to exchange their vows at Home Farm, but many viewers were left seething over Kerry.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan of the ITV soap asked: “Why oh why have they resurrected Kerry’s sad character #Emmerdale?”

A second added: “#Emmerdale Is Kerry supposed to be funny? She isn’t, she’s just a pain and I wish she’d leave again, permanently.”

A third noted: “Bringing Vanessa and Kerry back is just not needed! I enjoyed it much better without them!”

Carolyn wrote: “Really wish they had written the murderer Kerry out. A cringe-worthy character. #Emmerdale.”

However, some viewers defended Kerry, with one commenting: “Well, at least she’s entertaining. I prefer her c**p to the whole Yorkshire Dales crime scene we’re getting otherwise.”

Another quipped with a mix of laughing emojis: “I literally just spat my drink out when I saw Kerry was praying to a picture of a Cher #emmerdale.”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights on ITV and ITVX at 7.30pm.
