Mark Rutte, prime minister of the Netherlands, said he was confident Ukraine would get the air defence systems it needed following a meeting with other top European politicians.
The EU was willing to provide money to buy them from other countries, he said on arriving at a summit in Brussels.
“We know the amount they need and we know that we should be able to get that done.
“We know that many countries have Patriot systems but maybe do not want to deliver directly. We can buy from them and we can deliver to Ukraine. We have the money available. It’s crucial.”
However, he admitted that some countries wanted reassurance they could replace their equipment before handing it to Kyiv.
Rutte met Nato secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg along with Mette Frederiksen and Petr Fiala, the leaders of Denmark and Czech Republic, to discuss the issue.
