Jacques Villeneuve criticized Mclaren over his team, saying “it doesn't look like they want to win.”
Mclaren confirmed that they will give priority Lando Norris over Oscar Piastri, despite previously adhering to their “papaya rules” of fair racing.
Villeneuve told Sky Sports: “I think it starts with the word 'papaya' – it doesn't sound too complicated, does it?
“I don't want to be derogatory, I'm trying to find the right words, but I find it a bit pathetic. This is F1, this is the pinnacle.
“If I were Mclaren fan, I would be upset. Do they really want to win? Do they care? It doesn't look like they want to win. It's nice, but it's not F1.
“You are here to win, that is all that matters. Lando has outperformed Piastri in the first half of the season, he has a chance to win. Play by that rule.”
“I really don't understand this concept of, 'This is how we work: we're happier to finish second than to win.' It's weird.”
