“It will be a gradual recovery in the first week”
This Monday, September 16 marks the return to the pools of Leon Marchand. He finds his coach at the Dauphins du TOEC, Nicolas Castel, in the Castex pool in Toulouse.
His coach also spoke to RMC about this recovery: “So physically, I haven't seen him in a shirt yet,” he said with a smile. “But anyway, it seems to be going well! From a mental point of view, he was quite tired after the Games with all the demands, etc. And we feel that there is still a little fatigue at that level. But I still feel that he has regained a certain freshness, at least to return to training”.
Nicolas Castel planned a week consisting of nine sessions. “It will be a gradual recovery in the first week, so there will be some adjustments, but they still need to get back in the water, the timing is pretty good,” he explained.
Looking at Léon Marchand's games and performances, his coach found the points to focus on: “I felt that in the crawl, he still lacks a little power, he still lacks a little range of motion. depth in the movement will be one of the areas we can work on and for him to be able to express himself even better in the crawl because, he's already good, but I think he can do even better.”
The World Cup is approaching
New challenges await Léon Marchand. Tolousain will compete in the 25m World Cup events. He will be present at the start of the stages in Shanghai (October 18 – 20), Incheon (October 24 – 26) and Singapore (October 31 – November 2). He will then be presented at the World Short Course Championships taking place in Budapest (December 10-15).
“He wants it to be a bit of a fun time. He's not putting pressure on himself for the World Cups. He doesn't have high expectations. He wants to have fun. He wants to figure out what the plan […]”explains Nicolas Castel. “For him, it will be a good exercise to prepare this time for the short track world championships.”
