Wrexham led the way in a highly anticipated clash between two League One heavyweights but Birmingham's talent eventually prevailed as the Blues cruised to a 3-1 victory.
It helped Birmingham continue their unbeaten start to the new campaign, with a star-studded crowd including NFL legend Tom Brady, Gary Neville and David Beckham watching from the stands.
However, the clash was not without incident as the two third division teams engaged in a heated clash on Monday evening.
Birmingham finished the game with ten men after Poland international and captain Krystian Bielik was sent off for a second bookable offence with five minutes remaining.
It came after Mullin and Cochrane got into a scrap of their own, with replays showing the former appearing to go for the latter's leg before backing off.
Moments later, the tension reached its peak again and both teams of players entered into a fight.
After the game, Cochrane, asked about the brawl by Sky Sports, said: “I don't know to be honest, I was just lying on the floor. Bags out of nothing… complete rubbish really.”
Commenting on the incident in studio, former player turned pundit Curtis Davis said: “Yeah, I just kissed him on the calf, I think… luckily he didn't do that because he could have been disqualified.”
“But Christian [Bielik] You don't have to interfere there, he interferes and they praise him. James McClean interferes and I think six or seven of them get orders.
“And you just know when it happens, that incident, particularly for Birmingham and not Wrexham, but it's only going to cost you.”
When Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson was asked about it after the match, he gave a similar verdict, telling Sky Sports the encounter “came out of nowhere”.
Unsurprisingly, social media was in full swing, with @yellowandblue88 commenting: “Did Mullin just try to bite that leg?”
