Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced, citing a lack of mutual trust, that he was firing Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, his longtime rival within the Likud Party.
Gallant will be replaced by Foreign Minister Israel Katz, and Minister Without Portfolio Gideon Sa'ar will replace Katz as Foreign Minister.
“Unfortunately, although in the first months of the war there was trust and very fruitful work, in recent months the trust between me and the Minister of Defense disappeared,” Netanyahu said.
There were, the Israeli prime minister said, “significant differences” with Gallant in the management of the military campaign, and “these differences were accompanied by statements and actions that were contrary to government decisions and cabinet decisions”.
