Lula selects new ministers for the High Military Court

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva selected Army General Guido Amin Alves, aged 62, for the position of minister High Military Court (STM). Forwarding of nominations to the Senate is included in the edition Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) Last Monday, the 4th.

Born in Franca, São Paulo, Guido is the current military commander of the Southeast. If his nomination is approved by senators, he will replace Lúcio Mário de Barros Góes, 75, who will leave his position on December 23 due to mandatory retirement. Góes has been part of the Military Court since December 2012.

Lula appointed one of 15 STM ministers

The High Military Court is composed of 15 ministers, including general officers of the Armed Forces and civilians, appointed by the President of the Republic. This court is the final institution that makes decisions on military jurisdiction cases and is responsible for trying military crimes regulated in the Military Criminal Code (CPM).

There is still one vacancy to be filled at STM, this time by a civilian. Lula is expected to be nominated in the coming months.
