Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez rejected the idea of replacing the Generalitat Valenciana government amid the crisis caused by flooding in the province.
In a press conference, the President argued that such measures would be counterproductive, as they would reduce the effectiveness of the response needed to address meteorological emergencies.
He also highlighted that “we are all states”, and stressed the need to “work together so as not to reduce effectiveness, to realize the unity that citizens demand from their institutions.” In addition, he said that talking about the State and autonomy as separate entities was a “mistake.”
On the other hand, Sánchez expressed his desire to keep citizens' attention in cooperation with the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, as well as with the provincial government, rejecting any attempts to politicize this crisis.
“We're not going to get into a debate about whether you take it off and I put it on. “We are not where we are now,” he highlighted.
Finally, the Spanish leader thanked the expressions of solidarity received after last Sunday's riots in Paiporta and reiterated that his government's priority is the emergency response and assistance to those affected.
