Germany's ruling coalition has reportedly collapsed, with local media claiming Chancellor Olaf Scholz has fired Finance Minister Christian Lindner.
Lindner is a member of the Liberal Party (FPD), one of the parties that formed Germany's “traffic light coalition” in power since 2021.
Coalition leaders reportedly gathered at the chancellery in Berlin on Wednesday evening (November 6).
The FPD has issued a paper urging economic reforms that are unacceptable to Scholz's Social Democrats and Greens, according to reports.
Lindner reportedly told the German leader that he saw no future in a coalition and asked Scholz to call a snap election.
