French elite Rennes, which continues to have serious difficulties in League 1, is considering several options for a coach to replace Julien Stephan, but the most serious is the candidacy of Argentinian Jorge Sampaoli, reports the newspaper “Equip”.
Sampaoli, 64, is familiar with France's Ligue 1 having coached Olympique Marseille, and he has also coached Spain's Sevilla as well as Argentina and Chile's national teams in recent years. He last managed Brazil's Flamengo, but has been without a club for a year.
The Rennes team is ranked 13th in the standings after suffering a 0-4 defeat to Auxerre in the last round.
Media in France also mentioned the names Patrick Vieira and Niko Kovacs as candidates for coach of the Breton team.
